So we decided to up our technology game this year and move forward into mixed realities or virtual space. In looking at what our options were, and budget, we decided to first explore what potential there might be for 360 video. The idea of 360 video and how it might be a virtual option for us to use was to good to pass up at least to play with this.
We started out by researching what options were out there. I can only image that not everyone has caught up yet because the options range from quite underwhelming to insanely expensive. I had the opportunity to speak at the FocusOn Learning conference in June of 16 and gave a small presentation on getting started with 360. this was ideal as it ghave me the opportunity to research and learn more about it and then sharing it with the learning tech community.
You can view the presentation here, 360 Video In Training, and take a look. The

information is really what I gathered about the 360 space and some general things to keep in mind when you get started. The research can be a little confusing
especially if you are not familiar with shooting video in the first place. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a growing and developing technology which means it will be changing rather frequently. What is available today and top of the line now may not be after you drive it off the lot, but that’s also a downside to technology in general at times.
I am not going to go into all of the options, Google is much better at details than I am so I will let you research there. I will break it down in to “GoPro” and “FauxPro” options as we dubbed them. We could not justify the GoPro cost but we did find a good alternative with the features we wanted in the Git2 Pro action camera.

With the Git 2 cameras we have 2K recording options (at 24fps) and a video screen on the back something that we really wanted and was missing on several “fauxpro” options we looked at. Here is a good breakdown of the Git2 at this site (Git2 Review). Needless to say after our research and a little trial and error we were able to order the following:
8 Git 2 Cameras
8 64GB mini SD cards
1 Multi USB hub
These items allowed us to get started in the world of 360 video. All for now, more to come soon.
